Hi Guys,

Good turnout for the July 9-13 Arlington (AW0) Fly-In. We had a great
time. We ended up with 6 planes and 15 people, and we all met at Arlington
at one time or another, even though not everyone departed on the same day,
took the same route or even the same method of travel. It worked out fine.

First fuel stop was Amador (O70) in Jackson, CA where we hangar flew over
lunch and solved the world's problems. Then another fuel stop and overnight
(RON) where we chatted over dinner in Bend, OR about the fantastic views of
Mt Shasta and Crater Lake.

Then it was direct to AWO with a couple vectors over the Columbia River
Gorge and an awesome view of the north side of Mt St Helens that was blown
away and surrounding area that was flattened by the blast.

A few days at AWO with air shows, static displays and vendor booths seemed
to satisfy everyone and we were ready to do the fun part again... FLY.

On the way back most of us met at Medford, OR (MFR) for fuel and lunch and
once again solved the world's problems with some hangar flying. Then
everyone scattered to various airports to RON with friends/relatives, or
took the scenic route along the coast over the Redwoods and Golden Gate
Bridge, or went directly to San Diego.

Too many pictures, and even some videos, were taken for me to show or
describe. Those of you taking pictures, would you mind sending them to our
webmaster so he can select some and put them on our website?

Here are the people that made it to AWO Fly-In.

Flying from Gillespie Airport (SEE) were, Bob Werve, Doc Kennedy and Tom
O'Neill in a Skymaster, Bret Strain & Byron Ellsworth in a C-172 and Gary
Ghio & Gary Kauffman in an Arrow.

Flying from Redding Airport (RDD) was Jeff Picardi in a C-172 who met us
in Amador (O70).

Flying from Brown Airport (SDM) was Dennis Cullum in an RV3 who also met
us in Bend, OR, but took the route West of the Cascades vs the route East of
the Cascades.

Flying from Montgomery Airport (MYF) were Jim Newport and me in a
Skymaster.

From Lindbergh (SAN) were Jeff and Kim, with their two little ones, flying
with the airlines (primary transportation crapped out). At Oakland they got
a car rental and drove the rest of the way to AWO.

For me, it was the fourth trip to AWO, but it still pumped me up as much
as the first trip there. As usual, the flight there and back is always the
best part of any Fly-In.

NEXT FLY-IN is to CAMARILLO (CMA) on AUGUST 10. We might meet the pilot
that flew the California State Flag to the Twin Towers Memorial along with
other planes carrying the other 50 state flags. He said he may bring
pictures of the event.

Best of clear skies and tailwinds,

Tony Tex
